“A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots”

–Marcus Garvey

When people refer to the past, this is a direct account or revelation pertaining to history, which is the origins or roots of something. When we understand history (our past), we can figure out the cause for specific things taking place today. When people don’t know history, especially where they come from, they become disconnected-similar to a tree without roots. So when we know and understand history fully, we know that it pertains to people, places, situations, and events that have and still affect people’s lives in either positive or negative way. When people know their history (and history usually repeats itself), then and only then will individuals be able to have a better understanding of what was, what is and what possibly may be in the future.
